冠词是一种虚词，放在名词前面，帮助说明名词的含义。英语中的冠词分为不定冠词（a/an）、定冠词（the）和零冠词三种情况。

一、不定冠词（a/an）

1. 用法：

用于可数名词单数前，表示“一个”。

例如：a book（一本书）、an apple（一个苹果）。

用在第一次提到的人或事物前。

例如：There is a boy in the classroom. The boy is reading a book.（教室里有一个男孩。这个男孩正在读书。）

用在表示一类人或事物中的“一个”。

例如：A dog is an animal.（狗是一种动物。）

2. 区别：“a”用在以辅音音素开头的单词前；“an”用在以元音音素开头的单词前。

a university（一所大学），因为“university”的发音以辅音音素/juː/开头；

an hour（一个小时），因为“hour”的发音以元音音素/aʊ/开头。

二、定冠词（the）

1. 用法：

特指某（些）人或某（些）事物。

例如：The book on the table is mine.（桌子上的那本书是我的。）

指双方都知道的人或事物。

例如：Open the door, please.（请打开门。）这里双方都知道是哪扇门。

指上文提到过的人或事物。
